Vacancies

If you are interested in joining our research group, details of vacancies and how to apply are given below.

All our members are keen, hard working and independent people with a passion for chemistry.  We believe that the best way to maximise the potential and output of each individual is to be part of an effective and tight-knit team. As such we are always interested in ambitious team-playing candidates who enjoy tackling new challenges. If this sounds like you, we believe you will find working in our group a fulfilling experience that will help you along into your future career.

PhD Students

We aim to be taking on several PhD students each year to work across the areas of synthetic organic,  homogeneous catalysis and/or organometallic chemistry. Further information on how to apply to the graduate programme at Birmingham is given here.

For informal enquiries, please contact me by e-mail with your CV, including qualifications and grades, contact details for two referees, and a brief description of any previous research experience.

Any available post-graduate scholarships will be funded at a level suitable for UK or EU candidates. Overseas (non-EU) candidates should be self-funded either privately or through an awarded scholarship (see below). For very strong candidates (Very highly ranked at BSc or MSc level at high-level universities) there are some ORS awards available. These are highly competitive, but if you believe that you are suitably qualified then please contact me as soon as possible.

British Council

Post-Doctoral Researchers

Fully-funded post-doc positions are advertised when funds are secured. Details of how to apply will be included in the adverts on this web site and on external recruitment sites.

If you are interested in applying for your own fellowship to work within our group, you should contact Paul with details of your impressive research background and the fellowship you are intending to apply for. Candidates from any part of the world who are suitably qualified will receive help to prepare a high quality funding application. No reply will be sent to enquiries that do not include this information.

Some funding bodies are listed below, although many countries have their own fellowship schemes.

MSci Students

Students on the undergraduate course at Birmingham who are interested in synthetic organic,  homogeneous catalysis and/or organometallic chemistry are encouraged to apply to our group. The training you will receive is ideal for students who wish to pursue a career in organic synthesis or other aspects of synthetic chemistry. The projects are chosen to deliver a good level of training and potentially a high quality publication.

We have a range of projects available to match the particular interests of a student and I am happy to meet with students to discuss possible projects.

Summer Students

Undergraduate students with a keen interest in organic chemistry and a desire to experience research are welcome to contact Paul in order to discuss a placement in our labs over the summer. Funds to support living expenses are available from a variety of sources.

Visiting Scientists

If you are an ERASMUS or PhD student interested in joining our group for a short placement (generally 3 to 6 months)  please contact me by e-mail with your CV, including qualifications and grades, contact details for two referees, and a brief description of any previous research experience.
