Our meetings run weekly and alternate between research, literature and problem-solving sessions. These sessions are designed to promote scientific discussion, further the research of the group, and enhance problem solving, critical analysis and presentational skills.
Research
Group members report their recent experimental progress via powerpoint presentations to highlight interesting advances and help provide assistance in solving synthetic problems.
Literature
In an informal "chalk-talk" style, each group member presents a recent piece of the chemical literature which they find interesting.
Problem Solving
These meetings are held together with the Grainger group and involve a variety of different problem sets devised by the chair for that session.
Target Synthesis
Throughout the year, replacing occasional problem sessions, several targets of specific synthetic or biological interest are presented to the group. The combined Davies and Grainger research groups are split into teams to develop novel routes toward specific targets of synthetic interest. In a subsequent session, the teams present and defend their synthetic strategy in front of the whole group.
